Even more than a biking and walking path, the greenway will be a 2.5 mile outdoor gallery and one young artist is already moving his creative idea forward. After hearing about the Northend Greenway at an Ignite Harrisonburg event this past spring, ten-year-old Blake Somers presented his own concept for a sculpture along the Greenway to increase awareness of breast cancer in memory of his Granny. Taking inspiration from his everyday life, Blake’s dream is to make the sculpture entirely of Legos.

In an effort to raise support for his idea, Arts Council of the Valley has asked Blake to lead a sculptural Lego workshop this Saturday through its new Art in the Park series. The activity takes place July 21 from 9 a.m. until noon on the lawn directly behind ACV’s Smith House, located at 311 S. Main St, Harrisonburg, and besides the Farmers’ Market pavilion. Greenway reps will also be on hand to share everything you want to know about the path, park and prototype. Read full story in Staunton’s News Leader
