Candidate Forums announced and you’re invited

We’ve teamed up with the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition, Downtown Dining Alliance, and Harrisonburg-Rockingham Green Network to bring you a two-part Candidates Forum on September 17 and October 2. The purpose of this forum to publicly engage the candidates for City Council of Harrisonburg about their views, to educate voters and help them reach their own informed electoral decisions, and to promote citizen participation in strengthening democracy. With generous support from the Fairfield Center and the JMU Institute for Constructive Advocacy and Dialogue both events will be moderated by local professionals with student support.

Candidates Forum #1
Monday, September 17 at 7:00pm
at JMU Memorial Hall Auditorium (former high school)
Candidates Forum #2
Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00pm
at JMU Memorial Hall Auditorium (former high school)
ParkingAuditorium is on southern end of building on the main floor. If entering from northern entrance, walk across building.

All eight candidates are participating: Anthony Bailey, Roger Baker, Richard Baugh, Kai Degner, Rodney Eagle, Deb Fitzgerald, Christine Johnson (Sep. 17 only), and Abe Shearer.

  • The format of the forum is primarily question and answer, with a rapid response period. For more info download Forum Outline and Details.
  • Host organizations will provide questions to candidates ahead of time to provide them time to form thoughtful responses. To submit a question, please email Suzi Carter at suzi@northendgreenway.org.
