Please join us at City Council this Tuesday at 7pm to advocate for safe biking and pedestrian routes to school.
Tomorrow night the Harrisonburg City Public School (HCPS) Board will be asking City Council to move forward on plans for the new middle school near Harrisonburg High School. You can join this growing group of parents, teachers, and residents who want bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure included in the planning and the funding of this school project.
First on the agenda of the evening, HCPS Middle and High School students will be making a presentation to City Council members about their experiences biking and walking to school. Becky Johnston of RMH Community Health will report on the work of the Safe Routes to School initiatives and parents will ask our City Council members to plan and fund safe and pedestrian/bicycle access to the new school. At the end of the presentation, the parents will ask all those in favor to stand. Come join us in standing up for safe transportation options for HCPS’s children!
We believe that City Council and the School Board need to work together to plan and fund safe bicycle and pedestrian access to the new middle school on opening day. Please come out to show your support on Tuesday, March 28th at 7pm. Bring your bike helmet and a few smiling kids!
Please contact Becky Johnston at firstname.lastname@example.org
with questions. In the meantime, contact your City Council members and let them know you want kids and staff to be able to safely bike and walk on opening day!
